OK so I am looking at a 96 k1500 to buy and it has a 10 bolt in it. I do not know much about them besides a lot of people complain about em. My truck now and the 98 have both had 14 bolts. I am pretty hard on my trucks and don't want to get a truck that I would have to replace the rear end right away. I would eventually get around to it but only when the right axle comes along for the right price. So let me know what yall think about ten bolts.

Mine has been A-OK with the 350HP 350, and i dont treat it well. But all my OBS 4x4's have been F44/G80 Trucks, never had one with a 10 Bolt.

It'll be fine, I have a 10 bolt G80 and spin my 285s and it locks and goes good.

what tire size does the truck have?

depending what gearing is in there, if its like 3.08 or 3.42's, thats gonna suck a huge load.

As long as its still firm and you don't see excessive wear from the carrier bearings on the axle shafts you shouldn't have anything to worry about in the short run but if you plan on keeping the truck for an extended amount of time I would definitely look at getting a 14SF to swap in.
