So the truck is running......... normally enough, idling okay and then the idle surges almost to a stall and shoots back up... again and again and again.

Checking my timing while this happens and my timing mark moves 4 inches or so clockwise (retard?) and then shoots back to its original spot....

Im sure its the timing thing causing the idle fluctuation, or could it be the other way around?

It ran with the advance unplugged just fine for about 5 minutes while I set base timing, then I shut it off and connected the advance again.

However this has been an ongoing issue so maybe the smooth running with advance unplugged may have been a fluke.

Recent work includes
new fuel system from the pump to the injectors including rblt throttle body
*new ECM
*new IAC
*new ESC module
*new knock sensor and pigtail
new TPS
new EGR
new distributor
*new timing gears/chain
*new exhaust (cat-back)

Not all of this was done in response to the problem except those marked *

Thoughts?
