Low fuel pressure (i.e. failing fuel pump) will do the same thing with the original poppets.

MPFI has wires running down to each injector end. The original has no wires just a tube to each nozzle.

^^^This is correct, but theres no way to see this unless you pop off the upper manifold.

You can take the throttle body off and look with a mirror and light.
