Is there a way to identify OBS model years that came with a smog pump? i.e. by vin?
If I buy a truck and it's not necessarily original, I'm trying to determine whether it will be smog legal in CA

I don't think it's in the VIN, but you could run the VIN through Compnine and get the RPO list. Maybe one of the free decoders online would give you the information. You're looking for CA emissions instead of Federal. If you have physical access to the truck, there should be an emissions sticker.
