Can anybody tell why GM put such an angle on the rear shocks? I would think they would control bumps and rebounds better if they stood straighter up. Were they going for more travel?

Axle wrap. Thats why they are on both sides of the axle (front/back)

Old muscle cars had slapper bars under the leafs to control axle wrap. These trucks' shocks arent as good as slapper bars but they are significantly better than an oem 1967 Camaro.

It's pretty standard. My F250 is the same way. Had to add traction bars to it though for axle wrap like Rich was saying after the engine swap. Waiting to see if I'll have to do that to the chevy too once the 383 is dialed in.
