Shift indicator is broken on dash..

Not sure if this is posted in the right section or not, but here goes.

My truck wont show what gear im in when i move the shifter. Its always stuck on 2. The trans has been rebuilt by the po. I dont know if that matters or not. But i was wondering how do i fix this? Its a little annoying having to count how many clicks when i switch from P to find D.

Truck is in sig. 1990 gmc 1500. 350 700r4.

All the indicator is a little clip on the coloum and wire to the cluster. Pull the gauges and see if it hooked up.

Agreed ^^^! I'm going fom previous exp. with other GM vehicles. If it's the same as other GM's, be prepared to mess with it a bit to get it to indicate the proper gear.

Word, I have had to adjust that clip on every 88-94 that I have ever owned.

Thanks for the fast response guys. Since i have to pull the cluster out to access it, i might as well order some leds for the gauges. Ive been too lazy to do it till now. Kill two birds with one stone

Update..

I finally got around to pulling my cluster out and now im stuck again. There isnt anything for me to connect the wire thing to in the cluster so it will move the needle. Am i missing a piece or what?

Those two wires on top of the column are supposed to be hooked to the shift indicator,I dont know if the indicator is broken or not but it looks like it will need to be replaced.
