Yep I’m looking at timing. Going to open the app back up and see if I can find cmp retard. You’re looking at the CMP Retard and not the timing, right?
Loosen the hold down, twist and then tighten it again to check the reading.
Thank you!

Does this require the 99$ GM add on do you know? Not seeing CMP, just ignition timing advance for #1 cylYou’re looking at the CMP Retard and not the timing, right?

old thread..figured it out in case someone has a similar issue. bought a cheap bluetooth adapter from amazon. seemed kinda chincy the power and connection leds were reversed from what they were labeled. it did work though, for basic stuff. tried another one and all the gm specific PID's showed up. my cam is -1.6 degrees so i assume im good.
Thanks for all the help.
Just need a real scan tool.I wish the 96 would let me see ABS stuff.. but I learned that is a no go.
let me knwo your results. i havent been able to get cam pid with obdlink SX, or veepeak BLEold thread..
but thanks for this post.
exactly what I was wondering about.
I went through 3 obd2 bluetooth and had your same errors. I gave up and went 6 more years.
I had one that chopped every value in half..let alone give me the exrta pid's I paid forwith dash commander.
9 inches of vacuum and so on.
I am now getting a obdlink LX as my dad has me checking his years 18-21
it is firmware upgradable.
My luck it will demand the MX can version.
I have never checked my 1996 with 388k miles...had it for 7 years.
I put 48k miles more on it
truck is a blessing.
I wish the 96 would let me see ABS stuff.. but I learned that is a no go.
anyway, I have got to keep up with this nerdy stuff.
will do.let me knwo your results. i havent been able to get cam pid with obdlink SX, or veepeak BLE
after much frustration i returned the other scanners and ordered the obdlink mx+ and was FINNALY able to see the PID using dashcommand on my iphone.will do.
as my 22 year adventure with ebay goes..
i got tangled up with an 8 sale china guy.
had to re-order.
not sure how i do that every other month...
I think ebay uses me as an old timer to see if sellers are good.
will know by saturday.
I have that same obdlink SX cord.. obd2 but to serial.
total disaster.
I went old school win 95 era setup at comports setting parity and it still did not link to anything.
I'd swear I am in 300 bucks over the past years.
could have just gotten the old snapon used.
oh well.
I did notice my manual trans truck is extremely feisty in ECM functions. lightweight, runs cool.
it kicks a 420 code just for shifting gears...and then erases itself.
I would guess a high quality fast chip obd2 n the wireless is a good idea.
tried the obdlink lx todayafter much frustration i returned the other scanners and ordered the obdlink mx+ and was FINNALY able to see the PID using dashcommand on my iphone.
