No i didnt notice...what i did see was 2 copper clips that waa holding the tstat open, i probly could have popped the clips open an let it close an stick it back in but i didnt wanna chance sumthing happening so i thought ut safer to just replace it....

Sounds like you had a failsafe t stat designed to stay open when the car overheats.

Yep, and when you had that overheating issue, it locked open and never reset.
