Well as far as replacing the cat with a glasspack, they are two different things so you would need to remove the muffler along with the cat and put a glasspack in if you want. Unless you want to mufflers ofcourse, which wouldn't make any since.

As far as the codes, there is a sensor the goes infront of and behind the cat that reads the emmount of emissions it is putting out. if the sensor isn't plugged into anything it would get a no reading and could possibly be sent into a "limp mode" at certain speeds. You can have it programmed out.

only on the newer trucks my 88 has one o2 and it's in the manifold.

as for removing if you have to pass emisions you might fail them, if you have to pass visual inspection like we do you'll surely fail with it not being there.
