Question about torsion bars

I know that the torsion bars are the "spring" for the front suspension with IFS and it has a shock to dampen it, but, with the stock a arm setup, could you get rid of the torsion bars and replace the shock with something like an offroad shock that "springs" and dampens like in this picture? or would you have to change the a arms? Also with the stock a arms would there be enough room with the cv axles? Probably a stupid question, but I figured I'd ask.

Not sure on these trucks but most shock mounts are too weak to hold the weight of the vehicle, thats why there are so many horror stories about putting too much PSI in air shocks.
