Why not get a spray can or two of factory touch up paint and either sand the grill down to plastic or buy a paintable one? Plastidip is going to look crappy.

I attempted to strip a chrome grill. Used a wire wheel on a drill with no luck. Soaked the chrome in brake fluid, this made the chrome wrinkle but made the plastic brittle. Sprayed the whole think in easy off oven cleaner and then used the wire wheel and it started to kinda work but it made the plastic so weak it snapped effortlessly. I suggest not wasting your time, I also used 60 grit sand paper. Plasti dip doesn't look bad at all.
