I don't recommend using much out of a spray bomb. If you plan on spraying it with anything at all that has a strong solvent your primer will most likely lift and wrinkle. You could apply an acrylic enamel or alkyd enamel over a lacquer primer. Sanding to p1500 grit before paint is not necessary.

What is your budget? How old is the paint on the bike...ie is it base coat clear coat or a single stage? It would be good to know your expectations.

Spray can primer is fine as long as the prep is good. Mine was a mix of about 4 different colors after i replaced broken and missing plastics, turned out great. Ive painted 3 dif bikes with spots of primer, never had a problem
