I have a 1999 Tahoe 4 x 2 with the Z56 Package and 350 Vortec. This summer I had the A/C, I have front and rear and both were done, recharged and checked out and it works fine. A week or so ago I had the hood up and the engine running and the A/C was off but the compressor was clicking every 5 seconds or so. Anyone know what the problem could be? it has 102,000 miles on it.

I agree. See where your vent was set at. Defrost uses the compressor if not. You may have a faulty switch or short

are you sure you have no leaks?
Even with leaks, it won't cycle if switched off. The cycling is normal at idle when 'ON'.
The cycling if in "off" and defroster is not on, is not normal. Could be a bad AC control dash switch, or maybe a relay failure. Or a short adding B+ to clutch wiring.
Could be "hotwired?"
