Meh, I put a CTSV steering wheel in my 98 last year. Haven't killed myself or anyone else yet and I crawl rocks and trails in my rig.
Same deal with the shaft, had to machine my own splines in the smooth hole. Wasn't difficult, just time consuming. I also have the time, skills and tools to do it properly. mine has near OEM splines in it now.
But; I didn't grind away at the supporting web in the middle like the fellow in the link did. That's where it gets pretty sketchy.....
