Modified and Rebuilt TBI now won't run

Also FYI you can sometimes prevent pump failure by changing out the fuel filter when it is recommended.
I'm thinking if the truck ran long with a restrictive filter the pump was working against more pressure eventually giving out.

That's what I would guess too.. the filter was really bad. I've only had the pickup a year and I kept meaning to change it, it just skipped my mind every time I was at the store getting other maintenance stuff. However, I'm not sure if the fuel pump has ever been changed and it has 217k miles so some things are bound to go bad here and there.
