What I thought was that 96 and up trucks got them, but that just sticks in my mind rather than being based on something I read.

I looked at a 97 K1500 the other evening (extended Cab with 3rd door so it could be a 98 too) and it had the stamped steel lower arms.

could have been a 1996 as well.
The dash on the passenger side of the 96s is different than the 97's and up and I don't think the third door started till 97.
third door was option in 1996, i forgot about the dash, sorry.
