I hear what you're saying about older BBCs and loppy idles (especially those built for top end HP), but my L29 issue is more of a faint miss or slight hesitancy during idle. A couple of folks on this site have also said that when right the L29's idle is "silky smooth."I've never been in a vehicle powered with a muscle-car era V8 that didn't have an unsteady idle. My '99 Suburban got close to smooth when I balanced the rods and pistons and replaced the injection spider.
At idle, with engine @ temp 190F, my rpms are hopping around 740+- 50 to 60rpm. I'd guess this range should be tighter ---maybe 740 +- 20-30 rpm?
By the way, on cold start, the idle is much smoother although naturally higher @1100 rpm. But these higher rpms might be masking my sense of the miss.
Thanks
