I've got a 1998 K2500 with a 5.7 Vortec and there a high pitch squeal coming from the belt area. It mostly does it when the engine is warm but it doesn't do it all the time. The weird part about it is that the noise continues for a couple seconds after the engine has been shut off. Alternator has recently been replaced but it made the noise before and after replacing it.

Hopefully someone here can help me since it's super loud and really annoying.

I had a really loud squeal andnit turned out to be the belt. Worth a shot.

I had the same problem on mine. Replacing the belt did nothing. Turned out my a/c clutch bearing had gone bad. new compressor and problem solved.

Take the belt off and spin each pulley by hand. Feel for roughness and play. I don't think that you will find your problem there though in that you said that it makes the noise for a couple of seconds makes me think that the fan clutch is still spinning after shut down and that you will find a bad fan clutch.
