Its very easy to stab the distributor wrong. The gears are small and when stabbing it, the oil drive shaft has to be on its proper place too. Check out this video, but I dont use the paint mark he shows on the dist shaft. I just turn the rotor enough so that once the distributor seats down, the rotor is pointing to #1. You can see how the rotor turns as he stabs the distributor. Look close at this.
