Heater Control Valve Replacement

Anyone replaced this plastic one with a metal one? Perhaps they make one from a different application or set up a manual bypass with valves?

I believe the coolant flow comes from the 3/4 line connected to the intake manifold to the valve. With AC off valve allows flow through the heater core 3/4 in and 5/8 out. When the AC is on vacuum moves the valve blocking both heater core hoses and directs the flow from the 3/4 to the 5/8 before it reaches the heater core and back to the water pump. Perhaps this is reverse?
