Haywire cargo light

The cargo light in my 90' silverado only turns on when the doors open . Any reasons why it would do that?

That's the way it's designed.

Should also come on when you turn the dome light on with the headlight switch.

The switch in the middle of the dash is only to disable it, not turn it on.

actually it makes sense due to the fact that it prevents someone from leaving it on inadvertently.

Also illegal to have rearfacing white lightswhile driving. This forces you to have the dome light on so you can't ignore/miss it...

X3. the cargo light on my brothers 02 is on its own switch and will come on at any time. I like it cause you can check and see what's going on in the bed of the truck going down the road.

mines the same

only turns on when the doors open, no switch to turn it on seperately

but i have the reading lights, that do have their own switches

My dads 01 can be turned on at any time. I figured it would all be like that
