A lot of people have chased the flickering/humming fuel gauge on 1995-up GMT400 trucks; some seem to find replacing the sender does it, some don't.

A member on Chevytalk recently posted he fixed his by replacing the stepper motor for the gauge. While GMT400's aren't really known for gauge stepper motor failures like the newer trucks are, apparently it does happen to the fuel gauge. New one is about $40 online - http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...UGE+AIRCORE+STEPPER+MOTOR&_sacat=0&rmvSB=true

If it's got the hummingbird, I'd consider the stepper motor. If it just has an area that is kind of dead/jumpy, I'd be more inclined to think it's the sender.
