I'd do a th350, but already having a th400, no way would I NOT use it. If you were buying or finding one I'd g for a 350 though. As for the DS I'll see if I can find the charts I saved for lengths, driveshaft, you can change the yoke to match the spline. I'm pretty sure 700r4, th350, and maybe the 60's and 60e's are 27/26 spline and then the 400 is a 32 spline.

here's one table of measures I found..

Transmission Length
Case to ext. housing Overall length Bellhousing to mount
Powerglide (short tail) 15 ¼ 24 ¼ 19 ½
Powerglide (long tail) 15 ¼ 27 ½ 20 ½
THM 200, 200C (the 3 speed) 27 5/8 27 5/8 20 1/8
THM 250 21 5/8 27 5/8 20 3/8
THM 350, 350C (short tail) 21 5/8 27 5/8 20 3/8
THM 350, 350C (long tail) 21 5/8 30 5/8 20 3/8
THM 400 (short tail) 24 3/8 28 ¼ 26 ¾
THM 400 (long tail) 24 3/8 34 28
200R4 27 ¾ 27 ¾ 26 7/8
700R4, 4L60, 4L60E 23 3/8 30 ¾ 22 3/8
4L80-E ? 31.5 30.38

lastly, tci's website..

honestly, if i was shopping around, i would probabley pick up a TH350, they are lighter and a great trans, but i already have the "Stronger" (Using the lightly) THM400, so im going ot use it.

also, i found those length dimensions, it is GOOD that the THM400 is longer then a 4L60E, this means i can just cut down my driveshaft, and my grandpa is experienced at that.

also, i think im going to be picking up like a 2600 Stall, the 3500 is just too much, and TH400 stalls are everywhere.

like I said if you find a long tail th350 to replace the 700r4 it's an 1/8 difference. The th350 long tail they say is 30 and 5/8 where the 700r4 is 30 and 3/4. Although you have a lowered truck that puts the DS up in the trans more, but the th350 is shorter so if it doesn't bottom out now it should be fine to use later. It appears the mounts are 2 inches off though. Maybe you can slide the trans crossmember up 2 inches and dril lnew holes in the frame.

sweet sounds like an easy swap then. I don't blame you one bit for getting rid of od lol I lost mine first thing. I got a 4x4 and it's a daily but around here od sucks and usually is worthless.

i manual shift my 4L60E currently anyways, and i barely ever get it in OD, and with the 3.42 open diff and the 20" wheels, i dont really need OD.
