I know the question has been asked but I want a straight forward answer. 1998 Silverado k1500. Manual 4x4. What goes in the transfer case?

Auto-Trac(R) II Fluid (GM P/M 12378508

This is what I looked up because the GMT I have is a 1990 and may take the same fluid, but unsure. What does your manual say?

So, is the Auto-Trac(R) II Fluid (GM P/M 12378508, basically the same as Dexron II? Or, what is the GM part # for it, if not?
DexronII GM Pn.1051855
GM auto track fluid Pn, 12378508
They are not the same thing. The auto track fluid is recomended for later model GM trucks with push button T-cases but I am not sure which ones.

Got it, thank you. I could have looked it up but I was being lazy. Old makes me that way sometimes.

Autotrac fluid is used in the transfer cases that have the "auto 4wd" button on the dash.
