Well I dipped the brush in gas and went over the left side (2nd pic) but it didn't make it any better.

I started with a screw driver and chopped it up a bit, vacuumed, then worked the brush!

Looks good. I was hoping you had a better technique than a wire brush and shop vac. Looks like I'll stick with my purple power degreaser instead.

I was too scared to use a cleaner because I don't want to have to spray it off. I'm worried about the electronics..

I've never cleaned any of my newer vehicles with them.. only brake parts cleaner. But usually what I did on my drag car was cover the distributor and ignition box with bags.
