cant get my shift cable to line back up with my trans..

Alright so I had to replace my park neutral switch on my 4l60e throw it on snap the cable on go to change gears and snap! The ball and socket joint next to trans breaks. So I go pull a cable off a truck at the junkyard throw it in mine and its off quite a bit. Is there a certain way to put this cable or is there adjustment somewhere in the cable? This is the last thing holding me up from driving my truck again! I need some help!
