hi I am wanting to swap an manual into my 94 chevy k1500. and I have a few doner trucks picked out one is a 91 k2500,one is an 92 k1500, and one is an 93k1500,im just wondering what is the diffrance between the 3.i did find some information. just wonding if they call them all the nv3500 or the 5lm60.

In 1987 it was referred to as MG-290 --- My guess is the G is for Getrag
In 1988 it was referred to as HM-290 --- HM= Hydramatic / Muncie
In 1989 it was referred to as 5LM60
In 1991 it was referred to as NVG 5LM60--- NVG= New Venture Gear

The K2500 will have the more reliable, stronger transmission the NV4500. Those 1500s most likely have the 5lm60 getrag. The nv3500 came shortly after that

So the 5lm60 is from 91-93
And the nv3500are from 94-98 ?
Would the 93 have the detachable bell housing. I don't plan to do any towing so would the 5lm60 be fine. Or do you think I should go with the 2500

if you dont tow the 5LM60 will be fine. my 91 has done way more than a half ton should be asked of and the 5lM60 has held up fine.

NV4500 is tough, but the 3-4 shift gap is annoying.
