97 Silverado 4 Way Flasher Issue

Just noticed the other day on my 97 Silverado. Went to turn the 4 way flashers and noticed with my foot on the brake they do not work. As soon as I take my foot off of the brake they start flashing again.

The truck is new to me so Im not sure if this is normal operation or not?

Yes, normal since they're not separate circuits on these trucks. They use the same rear bulbs as the brakes use, so by design, the brakes override.
