Hey gang. I have a '92 C1500 with the V6 and a 5 speed manual transmission. Could anyone advise as to whether or not the shift knob is removable ? It sort of looks like it's molded into the shaft. I was thinking of throwing on a Hurst knob or T grip. Is this possible ?

Started by cutting off the top.

Exposed a hard insert on a hollow shaft. Found that a 3/8 tap was a good match for the shaft.

Next I cut the rubber jacket at the size of the jamb nut. Wrong move. Should have the jacket a little long then recut the shaft so it would not pull away. Total time one hour. Hint, put the tap in a vise and turn the shaft. The shaft will be about 1 1/2 shorter. Used a conduit bender (1") to reshape it fit me. Team leader.
