My transmission went out in my 1997 K2500, so I'm looking into options on fixing/replacing it. I'm considering picking up a used transmission off craigslist and just installing it into my truck. Now my question is are there only specific years that will be a direct bolt up to my truck? Or will any 4l80e out of a GMT400 work? Thanks

Nope.

For one thing, earlier 4l80E's didn't use the PWM torque converter engagement scheme...I believe you are stuck with 96+ for a replacement.

Alright thanks, one other question do I need to line up the torque converter a specific way if I am installing another transmission?
