Done! With the engine part anyway! It cranked and ran great!

But the tires were beyond shot and every wheel looked like it had been curbed on purpose!! Lol

I couldn’t find a decent set of factory wheels for a good price so I got these with some new rubber!

I also had to replace all 4 brake rotors. So of course new pads too.

It looks pretty good for what it is I think!

I taught my 15yo son how to drive in it since it’s a manual transmission and I wanted him to know how to drive one. And of course, he fell in love with it. It’s sporty and pretty fast! So then he wanted an exhaust too. But since I’m not a fan of chrome, it got sanded and painted black before installation.

They dark gray paint makes it perfect for black accents.

The A/C wasn’t working so I replaced ALL of the components. Plus the rear main seal leaked oil on my driveway nonstop, which I’m not Ok with. So out came the transmission and in went an upgraded rear main seal! This car is very needy and requires constant attention! And I thought that I got a good deal on it at $2k!!

Definitely can’t put dirty parts back in. And since the 15yo decided to claim the car, I’m making him put in the work! Lol. And of course something breaks that wasn’t expected on every job. Like this fitting on the firewall for one of the heater core hoses.

Of course, since the boy claimed it, he didn’t want it looking like every other GTI on the road. So the cosmetic mods started. Sanded the headlights and tinted them. Painted the backs of the badges GTI red and the chrome VW emblems black. And since it’s a Euro car, the fog lights yellow.

Spraying clear coat with a small amount of black added to the freshly sanded headlights and taillights. To give them the smoked look. Followed by a few coats of regular clear coat to seal it all up and make it shiny.

Finished product!

The tint is subtle, but that’s on purpose. I still wanted people to see the taillights and I didn’t want the headlights to not be functional.

He decided to paint the corner and markers as well. Sure, they’re supposed to be orange and red, respectively. But that’s what happens when you’re out of town and you’ve taught your 15yo how to do things himself.

He washes it nonstop and literally never stops taking pictures of it.

I bought and made him out a blacked out American flag front license plate on it so that people don’t think that we aren’t representing even though it’s a foreign car! Lol
