I might be looking at a 2000 2500 CCSB with the 5.7 279k miles with a rebuilt top end and new trans 60k miles ago. I’ve got a few questions about them.

Owner says power steering does not work at idle but as soon as the Rpm’s come up it works fine. It doesn’t have a wine or anything no leaks. What are your thoughts?

Also what gears did these trucks come with? I asked for him to send RPO codes but they sent a picture of camper truck camper load info that was inside the glove box.

What other areas should I be concerned with on these specifically? I’ve owned a few 400s but all 1500s or tahoes. Thanks.

Almost for sure the power steering pump is going bad.

Gears are very likely 4.10's. Most common gear in an 8 lug 2500. RPO will be GT5

Areas of concern? EVO and Passlock

thanks for the reply. he finally sent the rpo its got 3.73 GT4. i was hoping for 4.10.

passlock goes bad and motor wont start?

can pass lock be tuned out by a blackbear tune?

EVO is on the power steering pump? I have read a little bit looks like most people get a reman pump with the bypass?

Wow; that's wacky. Would actually be the first time I've heard of an 8 lug 2500 with 3.73's from factory. I mean, I'm sure they exist, I've just never personally seen one.

Yeah, Passlock starts to crap out and the engine will start and run for a split second then shut down. The only 100% reliable way to fix it is to have it tuned out of the PCM.

To get rid of EVO you can replace with pump and line from an earlier year if you like; pretty sure that's how others have worked around it. Or a pump with the bypass thingie. If your pressure side hose looks old maybe a pre-EVO (1996) pump and hose would be a "cleaner" solution, IMO.

Just as another data point my 95 8 lug came with 3.73s. I actually ran across an 88 with 3.42s but it had the SM465 trans with a very low first gear. I agree that the majority of these came with 4.10 gears.

CCSB are getting hard to find in decent condition. Check ball joints and tie rods. Those wear frequently.

I had to go back and look at a few SPID labels I'd saved pics of, and I do have one of an 8 lug 2500 that was a 1991 5.7, 4L80E, and 3.73. And, RPO XHH indicates 245/75/16 tires.

My '97 K2500 7.4L has 3.73s.

probably why the truck came with 245 tires instead of 265s.
Mine's got 265s now, not sure what it came with. Gonna have to look on the SPID sticker.

I had a CCSB with 3.73s, had a 5.7/auto. Was tired, and was a turd. The 2 I have now are 4.10s. Buddy has an ECSB 7.4 that has 3.73s. Prolly all on how it was ordered....

The crews have the jack storage same as reg cab trucks, behind the seat...
