1997 chevy k1500 z78

Hi I just bought a 1997 chevy k1500 and I was wondering how to turn off the 4wd I check to make sure the 4wd worked but now I have to stay in either 4wd hi,4wd low, or 2wd hi. How do I go back to what its original in?
