Housing has been painted with an epoxy enamel. Same stuff as used on heavy duty marine equipment they don't want rusting.

Had my machinist make a stainless one of these to mount on the cover along with drain and fill plugs.

Noticed the 14bolt SF's don't come factory fitted with the sway bar. Think I'll fit the sway bar later.

Painted the drums. Used specific 'brake caliper and drum' high temp paint....so I hope it'll last a little while.
I have a pair of brand new cylinders which I got from Ebay here (very rare to find Chevy stuff on Ebay here) for...from memory...0.99c each. Also got a set of brake shoes (both sides) for $1.99 I think.

I had my machinist make me a plate to mount the drain, fill plugs and sight glass.
He's also making me a new sight glass fitting from stainless....instead of the brass one I have.

Cleaned and 'wire wheeled' the rest of the brake parts ready for a coat of engine enamel (were mostly covered in rust).
Will be painting every individual part...except for moving surfaces where paint might cause issues. Being as this stuff is very difficult for me to get....I want to make it last. The brakeline brackets I will be making from stainless.

Machinist finished off the sight glass unit so I tacked it into place and I'll get a 'real' welder to weld it in on Monday.
I'll get a couple of stainless allen key type plugs instead of the brass stops.

New dining table 'centrepiece'. Strangely....my wife wasn't that impressed :/ .

Got the plate welded in and tested for leaks (using CRC....any pin hole in a weld...CRC will find it).

Now need to get the cover re-epoxied.

Pressed the carrier bearings onto the trutrac.
One thing I noticed with the Trutrac....which I didn't notice last time is it weighs about twice as much as the G80.
I have most of the necessary bearings and seals. Couldn't get pinion seals, axle bearings and seals...so a friend in Chicago put some in the mail for me.
I also pressed the new pinion bearing on and had the machinist here make me up an 'uncrushable' crush sleeve.

Made up some stands last night to make it easier to work on.

Still need to touch up the epoxy where it got burnt welding the sight glass fitting in.

Seals and bearings turned up. Made some 'slugs' to punch them in.

Here's a list of the bearing numbers necessary to rebuild the 14 bolt. Also the pinion seal. The axle seals weren't in packages..so no number.

very sexy. If I missed it...what rear is currently in your rig? Secondly, aside from all of the work you are doing to the new rear, is it going to be a bolt-in affair or did you have to screw with mounts? I'm planning on ditching the 14 bolt / 8 lug / full floater that is currently in my 1-ton for something lighter.

Currently running the original 10bolt with Trutrac centre (after the G80 did what they're renowned for...BOOM!!!!).
The 14 boilt is out of a 4x4 pickup of the same year and will be a straight bolt in swap. I could have just pulled it out of the truck and bolted it straight into the Burb.

Not yet. Still sitting on the bench.
Trying to decide whether or not to weld say bar mounts on it....probably will.
Pistons and rods etc...should be arriving from a mate in Illiniois in a few days so I'll start building the 383. Probably put the whole lot in at the same time.
