    QUestion on master cylinders

I guess seeing is believing. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/search/Brake+Master+Cylinder/01292/C0066.oap?model=K1500+Pickup+4WD&vi=1050769&year=1988&make=Chevrolet...

    QUestion on master cylinders

Well, according to Oreilly Auto Parts, Advance Auto Parts, and the local Gipe store the reason for the difference is because 1988 was the first year for the the rear ABS. Apparently, the standard cabs got the ABS, but the extended cabs still had the old system. They use different power brake...

    QUestion on master cylinders

Hello everyone. It's been a good while since I posted here. I am glad to see the site is still up and running. I have a question on master cylinders. My truck is a 1988 K1500, 5.7L, standard cab. I have been having some brake issues lately, the details of which I may go into if I can't...

    Undoing a lift.

Hmmmm. Maybe we can work something out. I am going to take some pics of everything to get them posted. Once they're up, maybe we can go from there. I never even thought about selling or trading the lift kit it has, but that might be a good idea. At least with a trade I wouldn't have to...

    Undoing a lift.

Wow. Thanks. I looked the booklet over. There are some things involved with this lift that I didn't think about, like the steering extension and the fan shroud extension, the fuel filler tube, etc. I was able to find a replacement body mount kit, but it looks like I will have to either order...

    Undoing a lift.

Hello everyone. It's been a while since I've posted on this site. I thought I was going to sell my truck, but it turned that my Ford sold first. That has left me with my Chevy. I bought the truck with a lift already on it, and, to be honest, I don't like the truck lifted. I'd much rather...

    WOW!!!!! BIG LOAD

Pfft All that money for a boat like that and the guy doesn't bother buying the right truck to pull it. Imagine that. I don't care what anyone says, that boat far exceeds the recommended towing capacity of a 1/2 ton truck.

    Truck dosent like towing

Ok. Yeah, I forgot about the tow/haul thing they came out with. That's the button they came out with that changes how the tranny shifts. Jeez, I must be gittin old!!! LOL!

    Truck dosent like towing

I thought Chevy changed the design of the transmissions when they came out with the Vortec engines so that all you needed to do was push a button to go from OD to D. Maybe that was on Fords where you could do that.

    Truck dosent like towing

1740 RPMs Here is a link to the calculator. Remember that whatever size your tires are need to be cut in half for the part that asks for the radius. I made the mistake of entering the diameter the first couple of times I went to this site and got some really off the wall results. LOL...

    Truck dosent like towing

I went to a site I know about to check RPMs vs speed to get some figures for comparison. The truck calls for 245 75r16 tires, which are 30 inches high. Running those tires produces the following results: 1625 RPMs .70:1 transmission ratio (overdrive) 3.73 rear end gears 55.5 MPH 2550...

    Truck dosent like towing

Overdrive isn't really designed to be used when towing. Unless an engine develops a lot of low end torque, trying to tow a trailer while running highway speeds at 1500 RPMs just isn't giving you much towing power. Hence, the engine works harder and uses more fuel, not to mention the stress on...

True. I wish I had a garage. It sure would make it easier to work on stuff.

Twelve hundred dollars for a clutch?!?!?! Jeez! The last time I did a clutch it cost me like $250! LOL!

    Spark Knock

The thing that doesn't make sense to me is that this guy had a new crate engine put in this truck last year. A new engine! Then he turned around and had all the old sensors from the old engine put on it. DUH?!?! You should see this knock sensor. It's so freakin used up that it's rusty! The...

    Spark Knock

You are probably right. It seems to me that Detroit has pretty much licked all the issues they had in the 70s and 80s with mechanical things going bad, but it's all the electrical sensor related stuff that goes bad on vehicles.

An update. Well, this didn't quite go as easily as I had hoped, but we got it done. I had a little trouble finding the tan wire with the black stripe on it, but I finally found it. When I checked the timing, it was all the way up to the 12 mark! So, we got it down to the 0 mark and buttoned...

    Transmission cooler

LOL! I thought about that, but I hate it when stuff gets squirted or spilled in the engine compartment. I took the truck mudding for the first time a couple of weeks ago for my son's birthday. Had a good time, but I wasn't thinking that I'd get the engine compartment so dirty. I opened up...

    Transmission cooler

How would I know which line connected to the radiator is the supply line and which one is the return line? It seems to me that connecting a cooler to the supply line would defeat the purpose of the cooler. It's been a long time since I had the transmission lines disconnected from a vehicle...

    Transmission cooler

I would like to put a transmission cooler on my truck--'88 5.7L, TBI. I have never done this before on any vehicle I have owned. My question is this--Should I completely bypass the radiator all together, or do I find the return line to the transmission coming from the radiator and mount inline...

    Spark Knock

Thanks. So, once I disconnect that wire, evenything else is just like setting the time on anything else. Sounds easy enough. I will get a timing light tomorrow and get it taken care of.

    Spark Knock

Nope. I do not know if the procedure for checking timing on a TBI engine is the same as a carbd one. Is it? This is my first TBI vehicle that I have worked on myself.

    Spark Knock

Well, I tired the tapping on the block near the sensor thing, and there was no change in how the truck ran, so I am assuming that the sensor is bad. That is what it said in the article I read. You would think that the SES light would be on, but it isn't.

    Spark Knock

Well, here I go again. *sigh* I thought I had everything lined out on this truck. I bought a camper today. It's an older one, '74 18' Prowler. I know this thing doesn't weigh more than 3600-3800 lbs. I hook on to it after paying the fella we get it from, head on down the road grinnin from...
