    Impossible to bleed brakes

Still no real solution. $300 later at the garage, and I have an inconsistent pedal and an angry wallet. It stops. But the pedal travel varies. There's usually a good 2-3" of travel before I get any braking. The rear brakes still lock up from time to time after going in reverse, then drive...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

We have another update. The brakes worked to get it home yesterday. As I was turning out of my driveway, the front brakes locked up, skidded to a stop, giving it gas just caused wheel spin. I had to forward/reverse a bit and got it to break free. We're going to look at a PV from an 80's square...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

There were some lengthy posts above, so I'm not going to quote all 3, but I'll address the main points of each. 454: my fronts bled perfectly fine. I was expecting the same with the rears, but had no luck. Which is where I am now. AvgJoe: That sounds very similar to what I've been going...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

As of Sunday I decided that my 20 years experience of working on cars and trucks wasn't enough, and dropped it off at a shop of a guy who has 40+ years experience. Plus whatever experience his employees have, collectively I'm guessing there's over 150 years experience there. They usually work on...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

He suggested my MC was bad. I explained how I tested it, and it's working fine. Being "a more competent mechanic" he then suggested I gravity bleed my brakes. I'm not sure how that would fix air getting in the rear circuit, but yeah, maybe I should sit around for a few hours and try something...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

I'm not sure I have anything to cap a flare. I can cap the end of the brake hose on one, or both sides. It wouldn't allow me to test the hard lines across the axle, which are both new, but I can test each wheel independently that way. That's a solid idea, thanks. How am I overthinking air...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

With the ports blocked, and the truck off, the pedal is rock hard, and doesn't budge. No fade, no movement. There's only one rear hose on my truck, it's 1 year old, and I'm replacing it tomorrow for poops and giggles just to eliminate something else. There's definitely an air issue, and not...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

I know something is wrong lol. I couldn't even guess how many quarts I've run through trying to get this fixed. Every time I changed something I'd bleed them all again. The MC is fine. When I block off the outlets, the brake pedal is solid, no fade, no problems. I thought the same thing about...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

It was initially dry, and is now wet from brake fluid. I replaced both lines on the rear axle the other day, and just took everything apart today to clean up the fittings, flares, etc.. The weather should be decent tomorrow, so I'll take a few pictures while I disassemble everything again...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

Our brackets look different. Mine is bolted into the crossmember the tank straps go into. I thought this hose looked shorter than the stock hose when I replaced it last year. I'll see what I can get my hands on. If the new one is short, I'll make a new bracket to give it more travel space.

    Impossible to bleed brakes

2 quarts through each rear wheel, and not a goddamn thing changed. Fronts bled fine. If I can find enough F's to give, Ill try replacing the rear hose this weekend. It looks like it should be a little longer. (That's what she said) After that I quit.

    What is this called...

I lucked out and found one of these on Craigslist a few years back. Just to make a quick note, a bull bar will fit with one of these bumpers, but itll be sitting right against those bumper-doos.

    Impossible to bleed brakes

Lol yeah, I use it when I'm cleaning things up with various oils and solvents. It keeps most of it off the bench. I have the couplings cleaned, one is being replaced since I can't clean the sludge out. 2 out of 3 lines have been cleaned up, and reflared one end. I have 1 more line to check...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

Morning everyone. I figured I'd post a quick picture of the setup under the hood. Pardon the rust, this is a DD, and I'm in the land of winter and salt. Obviously the MC on the left, brass PV on the right. On the PV: Top left is the rear input from MC Top right is the front input from MC Left...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

I blocked the line coming out of the PV to the rear. I agree, I think the problem is somewhere in the back as well. The problem I'm having is being unable to find it lol. I'm going to be checking the fittings on the line going to the rear tomorrow, I'll block them off at each section to test...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

The teflon was only used the past week or so after I was running out of ideas trying to track down the issue. I only used a thin layer to minimize the chance of air being pulled in. I know with a proper flare/fitting it isn't needed. I'm just trying to narrow things down, try things I haven't...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

The only fitting I haven't checked is where the hard line meets the high pressure hose in the rear, and I can't remember if I used 1 or 2 lines to go to the rear. If I used 2 lines, I'll have a coupling to check as well. I'll check those out tomorrow and report back. Thanks for the help so far...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

I've been getting fluid through them. The problem is that I'm getting air bubbles as well. I ran about 5 quarts through each of the rears today alone. That's not including what I ran through the rear since I replaced the lines on the axle Monday. Fittings were all started by hand before I put...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

All steel lines are new/newer. I replaced the lines from the MC to the PV last Saturday. Replaced the lines across the rear axle Monday. The lines from the PV to each caliper were done last year, and are rust free. The line from the PV to the rear high pressure line was done last year, and is...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

Just tried bleeding the rears again. I ran 2-2.5 quarts through each wheel, twice. I cleaned the bleeder, wrapped them in teflon, and reinstalled. I bled 2-2.5 qts with the bleeder just cracked 1/8-1/4 turn, and kept getting air. When the bubbles would slow down, I would close, then reopen the...

    ABS removal on a 96

I've been considering the hydro swap for a couple years now. Unless I can get my brake bleeding issue under control, there's no sense The replacement was pretty straight forward, I just need to make sure what I did was correct, and then I'll throw an update here for ya.

    Impossible to bleed brakes

That's one thing I forgot to mention in my novel. I checked drum clearance prior to installing the wheel cylinders, the drums needed to be persuaded gently with a screwdriver between the drum and backing plate. No serious force, just a slight twist of the blade. This was the same on both sides...

    Impossible to bleed brakes

I made a topic here: https://www.gmt400.com/threads/brakes-wont-bleed.42654/ and cannot delete, or edit it. Apologies for the double post. I thought I had it figured out, but obviously didn't. I'm sorry in advance for the long post. I tried to cover everything possible. I can't get my brakes...

    ABS removal on a 96

I'm in the process of this now I was just about to make a thread since I'm having serious problems with bleeding the brakes. I pretty much removed the entire ABS setup from the fender, made a simple bracket, mounted a combination valve for disc/drum and ran new lines. Assuming I did everything...
