    Lifter Recomendations For Cam Setup

Built a 5.7 a couple of years ago. Used a specially engineered Bullet cam. Original new OE LS7 lifters. A couple of them failed after aa few hundred miles. Replaced them with HY LIFT lifters which were quite a bit more money but highly recommend by professional race engine builder. Never had a...

Heavy duty harness + 4 hi mod wiring diagram!

This is an old thread I am posting to. I just want to throw in kudos for the Mean Green kit. Yes it is more expensive however I want to say that I installed it seven years ago and have not had a minutes problems with it. Having worked with wiring for over fifty years I was impressed with the...

Still got stupid belt water pump chirp sound

The tensioner is at it's limit as previously stated per the photo. I had this chirpy belt problem and after buying several new belts from different makers was advised on this forum to use the Gatorback belt. Expensive but it worked and I have not had a problem since.

    Screwed by CarID, never again.

Last March I sprung for LED tail lights for my '96 Sierra and the high price, $255, was steep but seemed reasonable if they were quality LED lights and the company stood behind them. I chose CARiD because they seemed to be a good vendor shown here on the GMT400 forum. My signal light on one...

    Best Replacement Fuel pump?

I remember reading that this approach would increase the noise level significantly. I have not done it so I cannot say how bad that is. I have replaced the fuel pump in my '96 Sierra and did so by cutting the bed to gain access versus taking off the bed. Doing it alone that was the only way. The...

Best cam for a 5,7 Vortec rebuild.

I had a cam choice issue a while back when doing a rebuild of my 355 Vortec. I ran across a guy who did a super job getting me lined up with a cam that has been remarkable. It was his design based on my input of what I wanted out of it and ground by Bullet Cams. he can be reached at...

    Orange waxy gel stuff

I have no choice but to watch the oil.. I have had three different cam cover/oil seals on the darn thing and everyone has leaked. Also, put on a new harmonic balancer the last time to insure a good sealing surface for the oil seal. The leak seems to have a life of it's own. I have heard the L31...

    Orange waxy gel stuff

The machine shop was supposed to provide the proper finish for the deck surface to allow use of the .015 shim steel gasket from Felpro. Perhaps they missed a spot. The oil in the crankcase does not show any kind of contamination or discoloration like it would if water was getting into it. The...

    Orange waxy gel stuff

Yeh that! Orange waxy gel stuff...... like droplets of the stuff hanging off the oil filter adapter/cooler lines.)Driver side of engine) I found this stuff today after being under my truck replacing a reverse light switch. There are orange streaks coming down from under the heads in a couple of...

    Bad battery or alternator?

That is something I did not think of. You would think that testing all of the circuits with a hot test probe would reveal anything that provided a ground. Anyway I'm good now and will just have to wait and see what happens from here.

    Bad battery or alternator?

I did pull and check every fuse for a ground with test light connected to battery positive post. No circuit was found grounding battery. Had Autozone check the alternator as well and because it was noisy they replaced it under warranty. (Gotta love their warranties!) Anyway after putting...

    Vortec Heads, need help

A couple of years ago I rebuilt a '98 engine completely. It was .030 overbore with stock crank and fully machined, decked to provide .030 inches of squish and cammed. Heads were stock Vortecs. Within a year I had gone thru three teardowns with head related problems. Biggest problem was the...
