Sell GMT 1500 Suburban and buy GMT800 2500 Suburban?

Hello going from a 3,000 pound pop up trailer to 6,000 pound travel trailer. Existing tow rig is a 1999 K1500 suburban. Thinking of going to GMT800 2500 6.0 4x4. Want to pull safely over the mountains. Any thoughts on pros and cons here? My existing suburban has 150k and is in very good...

    Steering Play

As a follow up to this. Steering vastly improved and generally drives great but having one issue. Above 50mph it feels like you need to make slight corrections to keep it straight and feel like you can't take your eyes off the road at all. You take your hand off the wheel and it does not pull. I...

    Steering Play

To follow up and maybe help someone else out. I returned the horrible Advance Auto rebuilt and went with a Redhead Steering Gear unit. The difference in quality is amazing. Truck now steers perfectly no play and returns from corners with no effort just how it should. IMO I would avoid auto parts...

    Steering Play

Thanks for the responses. I decided to pull it and exchange it as it just had a lot of play and I don't feel comfortable trying to adjust it myself. Got the exchanged one on and the steering slop went from 3 to 4 inches to 1 to 1.5 inches. The steering wheel is slower to return around corners...

    Steering Play

Trying to figure out why I have so much play in the steering. Stock 99 K1500 suburban. 3 inches of play in the steering wheel. I replaced the steering box, wheel position sensor, the lower steering shaft/rag joint (Dorman) and also had a lot of play in the upper steering shaft so replaced the...

    Heater Control Valve Replacement

Anyone replaced this plastic one with a metal one? Perhaps they make one from a different application or set up a manual bypass with valves? I believe the coolant flow comes from the 3/4 line connected to the intake manifold to the valve. With AC off valve allows flow through the heater core...

    Toss the Heater Core Bypass?

Thanks for the replies guys. I am going do it. I believe my problem with the hose clamps is I bought cheap. I have tried the Ideal brand clamps from Ace and they seem much better. Yes, agreed on simplicity. I do however like EFI and electronic ignition compared to points and carb. After I...

    Toss the Heater Core Bypass?

I have spent a considerable amount of effort on my 99 Suburban 5.7 Vortec to stop coolant leaks. Went from a heat hose leaking, to leaky water pump, to replacement radiator, to intake manifold gasket replacement and back to leaky heater hoses and connectors. I am thinking of ditching all of the...

    DEX Cool (Internet Information Overload)

Thanks I am really leaning to green long life stuff. Mine has the rear heater (Suburban) so might be difficult to get all the air out. I am using a Spillfree funnel and running the air out first. Any suggestions on flushing? To not introduce tap water I was thinking of first draining and...

    DEX Cool (Internet Information Overload)

Ok finished the job was not easy but I have a garage and this is not my daily driver. Put the upgraded felpro gaskets in and a new Delco fuel injection spider cleaned everything up and also install new intake bolts and torqued per the manual. Pulled both valve covers and looks like I was getting...

    DEX Cool (Internet Information Overload)

Thanks for the replies. I think I might go with Dex Cool for a year or two since I it is new stuff and have extra and then swap for green. Any tips on getting the distributor back in correctly? Looked at some videos but concerned I am not going to get the timing back correctly. I see how you...

    DEX Cool (Internet Information Overload)

Ok, I have a 1999 K1500 Suburban 5.7 base model. This truck is stock and I have all service records since it was a government truck and believe it has always had DEX Cool. The cooling system is Swiss Cheese. Started with heater hoses at heater core leaking (replaced). Then water pump (replaced)...

    Portland Transmission Exchange -

Thanks for the responses Personally don't want to put the transmission in myself unless it gives me a better transmission. Really rather spend my time on something else and don't want to pull it out again if there is a warranty problem. However, a place that is close that specializes in...

    Portland Transmission Exchange -

Does anyone have experience with this company? http://www.txchange.com/ I talked with them and they indicate they sell wholesale to a lot of fleet and transmission shops around Portland Oregon and I live in the area so I could pick it up and install myself. They sell a "Bullripper Heavy Duty"...

    Fuel Pump Noise

Thanks for the responses! This makes me feel better. That makes sense the higher fuel pressure on the multiport Vortec engine. I will change the fuel filter (glad it has an inline filter. My wife's 05 Caravan has no inline filter and the filter is in the tank with the unit WTF).
