Gears will yield far better results than a slightly less gutless motor. You could drop a 500 HP crate motor in and you'll still be leaving most of the ponies locked under crappy little gears that were meant for little tires. It's the same theory as trying to lift a heavy thing using a little screwdriver as a pry bar. Then grabbing a 4' pry bar and lifting the same thing. Dosent take a big boy, just a big pry bar. If that makes sense.
Gears don't change the output of your motor, but they do change how you apply that power to the ground. I'd go 4.10 ish with 35's. Just me though.

Anyone on here have a 5 speed or able to chime in on this? It's a daily driver so I would like to keep fuel somewhat ok. But need power to tow with.

4.10 gears would put you about 2200 rpm at 70 mph. 4.56 about 2400. 4.88 about 2600. These numbers are ballparkish
