BTW, @PlayingWithTBI what brand of headers are those and what model year truck are they in?
They are Summit Racing G9015 shorties with AIR ports for my CA smog 88 5.7L. I'm running Mr Gasket solid copper gaskets with Ultra High temp Red RTV with holes drilled out to 7/16" for better alignment to the ports, with studs and lock nuts.

Those fancy spark plugs came in today, as did the fancy "hardened" washers. All I'm waiting on are the pushrods.

All this nonsense because I just had to have aluminum heads. Had I stayed with factory iron, I'd probably be on the road right now.

Meh.

Yeah, sometimes you get what you pay for...

I'd like some elaboration on that statement, please.

OH! You mean the budget heads. LOL yeah you're right. Well, if I had ponied up for a roller cam, I'd have alot more choices in head selection.

But again - I'm not rich by any means so LOL I get what I pay for.

Yeah, I get it, put together a plan with what you want, your budget, and timeline, then almost double it - especially with this COVID CRAP going around! Hang in there, you'll get it.

Alright. I'm about done with this push rod nonsense. Only 4 individual rods came in. I ordered 16. Grrrr.

Rock Auto has been sent a nasty gram, but, in the meantime I figured I'd at least test fit one.

How, after all that measuring, is the wear pattern now too far left? I measured the thickness of the washer and the thickness of the guide plate that it replaced. They are both the exact same. I guess the push rod is now too short. It measures at 1.79, just like I ordered. Hmm. Maybe I'll put my length checker back in and try again.

On the bright side, those "shorty" plugs do make a difference. I don't think any further header modification will be necessary. So thanks for that, @PlayingWithTBI.

Yes, and make sure your lifters aren't collapsing. When they pump up you'll get a different measurement. You can get a solid lifter or, a small single spring with less resistance for checking length.
