    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

Just retired from the military. I’ve only been working as a contractor for coming up on 3 years. But I can’t complain too much about the travel and overtime. It’s 100% what’s funding my ability to do these stupid expensive over the top projects. Military retirement, plus military disability...

    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

Sounds like you’ve got a good project going on yourself. And yeah, I get it about the street performance trucks. It’s not usually my thing either. But it’s something new and different. Not to mention unexpected. Ever since I saw this done on a few episodes of Power Nation I decided that I had to...

    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

If you cared to count, you would now see 32 splines on the input shaft part! $650 later. Building something like this is stupid expensive.

Same here. I’m trying as much as possible to stick with mostly factory Chevrolet stuff. It would definitely be going faster if I didn’t have 10 other household projects going on at the same time.

Usually the sport truck thing isn’t my thing either. But the high powered AWD thing is. I guess we’ll see. But it definitely will be different from most other trucks out there.

I’m happy to hear that you like your lower gears. For small tires the gears I got should give me quite a bit of bottom end grunt, along with a decent, maybe 2800rpm stall, converter. That will help make up for the fact that my engine should make most of it’s power in the mid range to top end.

    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

People don’t seem to be excited for my new direction. Oh well, I’m not doing it to make anyone else happy. It’ll be better when I’m posting pictures of actual progress, not just parts. I literally have everything I need for the the front and rear regear as well as lowering, except for the...

    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

I have to admit, I liked the look of the 33’s better. I’ve always been a lifted 4WD guy and not a lowered sport truck guy. But I really wanted to do this AWD swap/build. Worst case, if I don’t like it, I should be able to sell it for a pretty decent amount and build something else. The tires...

    Say goodbye to these…….

    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

Ok, I know that I’ve been the king of indecision and buying parts but not making any real progress. But I finally think that I have a game plan figured out and a way ahead to start making real actual progress. I didn’t like the look of the NP149 transfer case that I pulled that had way too many...

    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

I also decided that I wanted a newly rebuilt NP149 transfer case including a new viscous coupler since I plan on running so much power through it. So I picked this one up off of eBay.

I also noticed that it has red coil packs on it. So I’m thinking that someone added MSD coil packs at some point.

    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

Took 6 hours. But I had my 16yo bring 2 buddies to help and to learn manly stuff. Since they consider themselves gear heads even though the most they’ve done (besides my son) is replace headlight or tail light assemblies! Lol But now I have a fancy 6.0 that I need to tear down and rebuild. I...

    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

Got the front clip off. The motor mount bolts are being a huge pain in the ass though.

    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

I just ordered my overpriced NP149 32 spline input shaft. I’m going to be using a 4L80E transmission vice a 4L60E and the output shaft changes from 27 spline to 32 spline. Since they never put a NP149 behind a 4L80E from the factory there’s no factory input shaft available. So from my research...

    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

You’re right about the 5.3. Apparently it was a LM7 crate engine from Powertrain Products. I actually already have a LM7 as well. I just need to decide if I want to keep it for another project or sell it to make a little room in the garage. I only paid $500 for it and it’s complete. So I’ll...

    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

It was a crate 6.0 and it was a front axle shaft. But that’s also where I got my inspiration. Any time you’re building something up for hardcore abuse, off road, race, track, whatever, you will find the week links as you go. That’s part of the process in my opinion and something to be expected...

    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

Ok, so it’s official. I just made a deal to trade my rebuilt 350 for a LQ4 6.0 as well. Should be swapping them out this weekend.

Yeah. It’s sad, I know. But I’m more excited about this build for sure.

    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

Ok. I’m made my first step today in 100% deciding to shift from lifted Z71, to lowered AWD. I picked up the NP149 AWD transfer case and an AWD front diff from a 2005 Yukon Denali that was AWD.

Well hopefully I have some decent content soon of me getting things done. I’m due for some forward progress. I just wish the cold weather was done already! Lol

350 Vortec Taylor Vmax intake manifold spacer

I don’t care about or need the throttle body spacer. But I’d be happy to pay for the shipping. Just let me know. Thanks!

350 Vortec Taylor Vmax intake manifold spacer

Plastic would work just as good as aluminum in my opinion. For the factory intake, the lower is steel and the upper plastic. The piece is plenty thick enough to work being made from plastic.

    1995 Silverado K1500 father/son build

Good info. That’s exactly what I was saying and talking about in my original post. This is where I got the idea from. His first one he built, and now this one he’s building. But yes, you can still find the 32 spline input shafts. But they aren’t cheap. $500-600 I think.
