What year transmissions can I use?

This is what I have. I currently have a 98 GMC Sierra scsb 2wd with a 4.3 v6 4l60e that I bought with no reverse. My question is what year transmission's can I use in my truck? Can I use one that say came out of a s-series truck or blazer or maybe a newer generation truck say 99+ that had a 4.3...
