    Swapping 98k2500 454/4l80e into 98 k1500

I'll have to take a look at it in the morning and see what's on the passenger side. I just don't wanna deal with having to pull the dash.

    Swapping 98k2500 454/4l80e into 98 k1500

Hey all, have a 1998 k2500 454/4l80e truck that has a bent frame. Motor and transmission both rebuilt with under 15,000 miles on them. I also have a 1998 k1500 with the 5.7/4l60e , motor has a spun rod bearing. Question is, seeing as though both trucks are 1998 and already own them both , can I...

    1998 454 throwing code p0175, rich on bank 2

Have a 1998 k2500 , 454 rebuilt 11,000 miles ago. Literally everything new. I have a good scanner that I can see live data on and when #8 injector was shut down, it kept running smooth, so it was replaced. Still running rich on bank 2. Fuel injectors, fuel pressure regulator , map sensor, etc...

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

Well, mechanic cut one of the cats off to gut it and the previous owner has already done so. New ECU on the way. If that doesn't do, I'm going with the engine builders recommended mechanic.

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

Truck has had a scan tool on it several times. Initially when I bought the truck and realized it was getting hotter than it should, I put my scanner on and realized the distributor was a tooth off( -22.5°). Had the mechanic pull the distributor and correct it to get the timing set to zero...

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

Well, mechanic installed another new water pump today and replaced the bypass hose. Told me they drove it in circles around the building and it never got over 210°. Took it out myself on the highway and did my normal test route with it and still doing the exact same thing. Talked to the engine...

Yea, that's my problem though. I don't wanna rig a brand new motor with a bandaid fix. Need to find the underlying problem that's causing it. I'm gonna use this truck to tow a trailer out of state frequently.

I did. I cut the center section out of one and just used the base as a restrictor and it did the same thing. Next one I put in was a high flow and I drilled two 1/8" holes in it. Same deal.

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

We've already cut the exhaust free , it's not back pressure. Changed injectors because of bad long term fuel trim numbers. The only thing we can find is it doesn't seem to stay in advance the way it should, but I can't see where that would cause a 20-25° jump from highway speed to coming to a...

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

If my temps on the gauge were staying consistent when I pull off a highway I wouldn't think twice about it. I fully understand no 2 engines are exactly the same even if built with identical parts, but the 20-25° jump just by pulling off the highway tells me coolant isn't properly circulating...

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

The first was a high volume water pump, don't remember the brand name, but the hub came off the shaft in the first 50 miles. Second one was a Delco. Definitely all reverse rotation pumps. I'll check it again when I go to the mechanics after work tomorrow, but every time I've looked at it the...

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

I doubt it. My engine man is pretty thorough and I told him when he got the motor to rebuild I thought there was something restricting flow in the block or the heads. I did have one new water mump that only lasted 50 miles because the hub came off the shaft and sent the fan into the radiator...

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

I have the funnel you're talking about and did this procedure before having the engine pulled to rebuilt. I put the front of the truck up on ramps , heater on high, and sat in the truck with the door open for an hour keeping it revved up. It made no change. I'm baffled, my mechanic is...

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

I have thought about doing this to see if the sending unit for the ECU was what was giving me a bad reading and in turn causing the ECU to give a bad timing and fuel curve leading to a lean condition. Only reason I haven't so far is that with a scanner hooked up with live data, I've confirmed...

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

That's actually a really good idea. I'll do some homework on a garden hose to block adapter. If one isn't available, I suppose I could always make one with a flat piece of steel and weld a bung to it to clamp a garden hose to. I have a plasma cutter and mig welder.

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

I've got half a notion to get a clear piece of hose to replace the upper radiator hose temporarily so I can physically see what kind of flow I'm getting with the thermostat open. I think if I've got good flow there, then there has to be a restriction in the block, heads or intake......which...

I thought the same thing, but have had 3 different pumps on this motor and I have good flow coming back into the top of the radiator from the heater core.

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

Yep, brand new water pump when motor was rebuilt. I actually have an Edelbrock high flow water pump sitting here we tried to install and neither bolt pattern on the hub will match up with the pulley or fan clutch. I'm thinking the same thing about the pump other than there have been 3 pumps on...

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

The motor did this same thing before the motor was rebuilt and had never been apart before this. My mechanic is an older gentleman and a good family friend. He called what he called his "big block guru" today and he wants to come down himself and actually see how the coolant is flowing. He asked...

Cam was degreed when built. I've had 3 thermostats in this engine and stove tested the last 2. Verified dash gauge with auto meter mechanical gauge. On cold start up, if you watch the gauge you can see the thermostat cycle at 195° the first time. After the first cycle it goes to 215° and stays...

When the new motor was installed, the coolant was vacuum filled. Been working on this stuff for 35 years and it's got me baffled.

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

Driving down the highway at 70mph gauge says 215. If I pull off at an exit it'll climb to 235. If I rev it to 2000 rpm it'll quickly come back down to 215. The whole time it's doing this, the ECU sensor in the intake is reading around 200°.

    1998 k2500 454 getting hot

Yea, I suggested to the mechanic that instead of swapping ecu's, we drive the one that runs right and record the advance data off the scanner and compare it to the one that's getting hot. That would explain the lack of power from a brand new motor, but I don't think even running lean would...
