    As simple as chocking the tires, removing the driveshaft, and the tail shaft housing from the transfer case. I ordered the sonnax repair kit as it’s beefier and a one time job.     When the C clip in the transfer case breaks, it allows the output shaft to shift enough to cause the gears to grind, this comes from driveshaft movement. I’d imagine my old 5.7 only has enough power/torque in first to shift the driveshaft around that much I also have leaf helpers so zero axle wrap.

    Alright, update: Nothing loose externally, no crank walk. I think it’s the C-Clip in the Transfer case that’s notorious for breaking. Ordered the kit and I’m gonna to pull it apart this weekend.
