New update: I did a dry crank compression test on all the cylinders and they're all right at 150 psi except for two which are 155 and 160ish, but that doesn't seem like a problem to me.
While I was doing that I accidentally shredded one of my plug wires, so I figured since they're the only...
Well I made it back from Georgia all right, truck never had any problems at all besides that it still pops. but over that roughly 2400 mile trip I got a good feel for how it's affecting the truck mechanically - it really struggles to gain acceleration on hills and just general acceleration past...
Well, another update; driving to and from work today I noticed the truck is running very smoothly, it doesn't chug or feel crappy anymore. This is after I replaced the IAC valve and the ICM, so one or both helped with that problem.
The only problem left is it still pops and it lacks power on...
Thanks, lol - I don't have a whole lot of experience under my belt yet but I've been working on learning everything I can about working on my own vehicles so I don't have to take them to a mechanic for pretty much anything besides a tire alignment; it's very frustrating sometimes but the taste...
Driving down the road it was reading 25 psi, I don't recall but I'm pretty sure if I goosed it a little it would dip but so would the engine; I think I may have made some kind of choke point in my testing setup because I don't have a T-junction for the tester and don't have time to get one so I...
that's what I was kind of thinking, I'm just not sure how I would reduce it... I assumed if the regulator was bad on the throttle body then it wouldn't hold pressure, but I don't know it's internal mechanics
Actually when I jumped the scanner plug I just got two new codes - 35 and 42. It's possible 35 is from yesterday when I was screwing with the vacuum and may have had the filter off and stuff but I also have got it before but it always seems to go away. So ICM and IAC valve are possibly suspect?
well, I took it for a test
Unfortunately I don't have an OBD-I scanner and I won't have time to get one before I have to drive the thing on a 20 hour trip to GA this weekend... That's going to be interesting.
So of course the problem isn't as simple as the cap and rotor. The rythmic popping...
Well, I managed to jerry rig a kind of t-junction setup so I could use the fuel pressure gauge; primed with engine off read about 22 psi, and running/driving was about 25 psi.
These numbers may be skewed because I think somewhere one of my makeshift fittings bottlenecked the flow because the...
So I pulled the plugs out of the truck today, they all looked pretty much the same, like this picture. I guess it's kind of glazed looking, so I got some cooler running plugs and replaced all 8 (making sure they were gapped right as well).
There's no difference in how the truck drives...
The plugs are fairly new, the wires have been on the truck at least two years (that's how long I've owned it, I think they were replaced right before I bought it), fuel filter is... I wanna say close to a year old, I replaced an old one. I have not checked fuel pressure yet, although the pump...
