    When my GMT400 isn't enough...

Comparing the 6.0 to the 454? You're not wrong. Comparing the 6.0 to the 350? It's close. I think I like the GMT800 better for things other than the LS engine. I do like the LS, but it's soooo different than the SBC engines. I'm really gonna miss my GMT400. bb

    When my GMT400 isn't enough...

I made the switch to a GMT800 and may be able to add some perspective. The backstory: I have towed race trailers with other GMT400's in the past. I had a 92 K2500454, 4:10, 'burb with a dual rear wheel kit on it. That really towed well. Also had a 94 K3500 ECLB with the 6.5. It towed well, too...

    Brake light comes on....'96 K1500 w/ ABS

Thanks for all of your replies. I do have a mighty vac. It does work well. I just don't have it at our vacation home where the brakes took a dump. I took the truck to a shop where they did a pressure bleed and cycled the ABS. Problem solved. bb

    Worth upgrading to GMT800?

Well, I did it. I have not sold my '96 K1500, but I did buy this '01 2500HD CCSB: Again, not intending to hijack this thread, but I am wondering if there is a decent GMT800 forum. I have been searching and have not found anything as good as this GMT400 forum. That's one good reason to stick...

    Worth upgrading to GMT800?

Appreciate the feedback, guys. I agree that the '01 won't be trouble-free. But there are really two things at play: towing capacity and itching for a new truck. My '96 is at capacity when towing our race trailer. The '01 will have tow capacity to spare. And yes, I have an itch. I have owned a...

    Worth upgrading to GMT800?

I am considering a similar upgrade. My 1996 K1500 ECSB is out of it's league when towing our race car. While it only has 145k on it and is a CA truck, I am getting tired of working on it. The replacement will likely be a 2001 2500HD CCSB. The 800 seems better in every way. Mostly, I need...

    Brake light comes on....'96 K1500 w/ ABS

Well, I think I have a complication: after my 6th bleed and after cycling the ABS twice as you guys suggested, I heard a thunk and then a jingling sound from the right rear. I think the rear brake hardware is now rattling around in the drum. I am not in a position to jack the truck and remove...

    Brake light comes on....'96 K1500 w/ ABS

After a panic ABS stop (while towing) my "Brake" light came on and the pedal has been spongy, with long travel. Pump the brakes, and the pedal comes up and the light goes off. I bled the brakes and everything seemed fine while bleeding, but it did not solve the problem. I suspected the M/C was...

How do you beat this $16.00 Modification?

I've used these on the past two trucks I've owned, both with good results. Yes, the bar distorts a small area of the bed where it inserts into the sheet metal. If I lived in the mid-west or north-east US, I could certainly see this becoming a rust problem. Not an issue here in SoCal. I don't...

    front hitch receiver

I tow three different trailers--19' ski boat, 5x8 utility trailer, and 20' enclosed race trailer. In general, the benefit is two-fold: maneuverability, which has been mentioned, and visibility. With the boat trailer and the utility trailer, it is really easy to see what I'm doing when I'm...

    front hitch receiver

I bought DrawTite, Model 65005. I think it cost about $125. It is rated for 500# tongue weight and 9,000# line pull. That's suitable for the winching I do. It is most handy, however, for parking a trailer. We keep our ski boat in our garage. It's a tight squeeze. There are only a few inches on...

    Towing capability

This is a great thread with lots of good info. I have a 1996 ECSB (Z71) with 3:73 gears, 4x4, and 265/75-16 tires. It tows quite well. We tow a 7500# GVWR enclosed trailer (8'4" wide x 7' tall x 20' long) to races around CA. The trailer weight is 3580# empty and the race car weighs 2200#. With...

    Water Pump Relacement

^ ^ ^ I was looking for a parts list for water pump, heater hoses, upper and lower radiator hoses, bypass hoses, t-stat. Everything but the radiator.

I searched Rock Auto for 30 minutes and could not find one. bb

    Water Pump Relacement

I have a 1996 K1500 and want to replace everything--water pump, heater hoses, upper and lower radiator hoses, bypass hoses, t-stat. Everything but the radiator. Does anybody have a comprehensive parts list with parts numbers? I went to O'Rielly's, spent $180 and 1/2 of the parts are wrong...
