One of the hardest mods I've attempted yet (hardly lol). This piece "should" be replaced every 50k miles. This isn't as much a write up as it is a reminder but I was bored so I snapped some pics.

Takes 1-5min and costs around $5.00

You must be registered for see images attach

There's where the valve is. Pull it from the bottom.

Once you've got it, pull the valve out of the hose.

The old PCV valve itself.

Put the hose over the new valve and plug it back in and you're ready to go.

I did this when I did a tune up a little while ago. I have no idea if it made a noticeable difference but like you said it should be done every 50k and it had been that long. It's cheap and quick so why not.
