Sounds like your wiper arm is stripped out. Should be spliced on the inside.

It's splined and has the key still too.
It has to be the part the arm attaches to, that is bad.
I'm supposed to be getting one today, hopefully that's it

Got the new(used) linkage from a 97 and it works fine. I think the part the arm attached to was twisted somehow.
But it's all back together and working! Woohoo!!
