What type of fluid?

Putting new engine in my 96 and don't know what ATF to use.

Dexron III or VI. The 6 is backwards compatible with 3. I put VI in mine

I use Dexron 3 also

put dex 6 in it, much better fluid all around, 3 will work but not as good

To be completely honest. I have put mercon 5, dexron/mercon. Any ATF really. Most recently it has been mercon 5, just flushed the 94 with mercon 5 and the big truck has honda mercon 5 in it to tell ya the truth.... Actually i replaced the filter in it again not too long ago so it's got mercon 5 in it also haha

mercon 5 is a synthetic also so will work fine as you know
