Truck stuck in 4w hi

Hey guys I just got a 1994 k1500. Truck needs a little tlc but runs great. Only problem im running into is the truck will not go into 2wd. Whenever I switch the lever to 2wd and shift into a gear the truck does not move and the tranny grinds when I try to put it back into park. I have no idea where to start and was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction. Thanks

Sounds like she is going past 2wd and going into neutral.

Yea kinda but you can feel the lever when it catches in 2wd if that makes any sense
